Heroes and Superheroes

Heroes are important for our society. We know many heroes like Spiderman –or Batman, Ironman, etc.- but, do we know why are they heroes? Are superpowers the only important thing? Is there any hero in Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings? Let’s observe and analyze these questions.

Heroes are amazing and very important. They are brave and defend the world. Heroes risk their own lives helping many people. They do impossible things that these regular people cannot do.  This blog analyzes and compares Spiderman and Tolkien’s Frodo Baggins and Samwise Gamgee.

We have chosen these characters because they are really important. Some people know Frodo and Samwise Gamgee. But everybody know Spiderman. Both appear in many books, comic books, cartoons, series or movies. If you think of a hero, you immediately think of Spiderman but not someone from Tolkien’s world. That is why we are comparing both, to show that Frodo and Samwise are heroes, and to learn the things that make someone a hero.

Throughout history, superheroes have been considered incredible people because of their special super powers. Spiderman is one of the most famous heroes. These heroes, like him, are first common people and then they become epic characters. As a good hero, Spiderman do not seek any award, only to help people and save their world. Besides, he is respectful and has compassion for his friends and enemies.

Frodo and Samwise Gamgee are heroes without powers. They need each other to be considered heroes. Frodo is a bit coward and shy. He needs a friend to make him important. Also, Sam helps and saves Frodo many times in the story. Characters, to become heroes, need the help of the people to make a common effort. Finally, these characters are alone in their adventures because only they can help the world. The same happens in The Lord of the Rings because is Frodo who finishes the mission. Nevertheless, Frodo could not have done anything without Samwise Gamgee.

In conclusion, they are both great heroes. Spiderman and Frodo –and Samwise- are very similar although their stories are totally different. Both need help and save their worlds. Both show some virtues that common people do not have. This blog have shown these virtues of heroes and the similarities and differences with common people. Now you can discover heroes around you.
